Moving in New York City amid COVID-19, or novel coronavirus 2019, requires new client and employee guidelines. For the latest general information and guidelines about novel coronavirus 2019, please visit CDC.gov. The information below details how the Cool Hand Movers team is addressing this medical crisis but should not be used as a medical resource.
It is a difficult decision to temporarily close but we all must do our part to flatten the curve. Due to the escalating health crisis throughout NYC, we no longer feel we can operate with the level of service and safety we owe to our employees and clients. Click here for details on why we’re temporarily closing.

** We are no longer scheduling moves for before June 1st, 2020. **
Guidelines while we were still operating under the health crisis:
At this time, Gov. Cuomo’s order to close non-essential businesses does not apply to licensed moving companies. Our administrative team is working from home per state guidelines.
Cool Hand Movers takes the health of our staff and clients seriously. That is why we ask you to please read on about how our business policies and practices are different because of COVID-19. Also, we ask that all of our clients follow CDC guidelines for their health and the health of our teams. You can revisit this link for updated information.
Team Education & Guidelines
All of our moving staff have taken an informational quiz on CDC guidelines. They have the latest information on preventing the spread of COVID-19. Based on those guidelines, all staff members are to:
- follow all basic CDC guidelines for prevention
- take their temperature before each shift
- stay home if they’re sick
- clean inside of cab & door handles with disinfectant after each service
- use provided hand sanitizer between services
- wear provided disposable gloves throughout each service
- keep personal items like cell phones inside of disposable gloves during service
Please note that we are stocking these supplies as frequently as possible given national shortages.
Interactions with our Team
Keep at least six feet of distance between yourself and the team at all times. No handshakes! Because you’re so friendly, you might forget. In that case, our team members will politely decline.
Have your own pen on hand for signing paperwork. We are working on moving all contracts to a digital signature.
If you offer your team a water or coffee break, then please provide disposal cups or single-serving bottles.
Let us know at booking if you are avoiding handling cash and we will waive any credit card fees.
Above all, if you are sick, please let us know immediately. We will help you reschedule your move, or help you make alternate arrangements. To that end, cancellations due to illness, quarantine, or caring for someone with COVID-19, will not be subject to cancellation fees. Similarly, moves postponed for illness will not be scheduled less than 14 days from postponement.
Moving in New York often requires coordination with building management. Hence, we ask that you keep in touch with yours and pass along any information related to your move. If your building postpones or cancels your residential move due to the health crisis, any relevant fee will be waived.
Moving in New York is an inevitability. So far, there is no indication from neither the NYSDOT nor the USDOT that moving companies in NYC will be required to stop service. Should that change, we will notify our clients immediately.
Finally, we are committed to doing our best to keep our team and our clients safe. So, these policies will develop with the situation. Please do reach out with any follow-up questions. E-mail us at [email protected].
