Tips on Packing a Moving Box, featuring the Cool Hand Movers team

Are you planning a move and feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of packing? You're not alone! Packing for a move can be a complex task, and many people make common mistakes when packing individual boxes. Cool Hand Movers recently had the honor of being featured in an article by Jennifer Billock on Apartment Therapy, where experts shared insights on what can go wrong when packing moving boxes. In this article, we'll explore the valuable advice provided by Ashley Graber, co-owner of Cool Hand Movers, and other industry professionals.

Avoid the Pitfalls of Packing

1. Making a Box Too Heavy

One of the biggest packing blunders is overloading a box to the point where it becomes too heavy and/or unstable.

2. Using the Wrong Type of Box

While cardboard boxes are the go-to choice for many, they may not always be suitable. Reusable moving bins are a straightforward solution for movers and their clients. For items that won't be opened for an extended period or need protection from air and moisture, plastic totes with rubber gasket seals are a better option.

3. Packing Essential Items

Don't make the mistake of packing items you'll need immediately in a box that's inaccessible. Ashley advises having a separate tote or backpack containing essentials for your first night in your new home. This ensures you have easy access to items like your toothbrush, ensuring a smooth transition.

4. Underpacking Boxes

On the flip side, underpacking boxes can also pose problems. Leaving empty spaces inside boxes without padding or filler can result in boxes buckling when stacked.
